Sleepy Bear Reads Another Favorite Christmas Story

Hello Book Buddies!

I'm reading another one of my most favorite Christmas books. It's called MERRY CHRISTMAS CURIOUS GEORGE. I like George. I think he has a big heart, like me! But he gets into lots of trouble, like Moosey-Moose! Uh oh, don't tell Moosey-Moose I said that.

I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season in case you don't celebrate Christmas. I'll write some more later.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear Reads One of His Favorite Christmas Book

Hi Book Buddies,

It's my favorite time of the year which means it is time to read one of my favorite Christmas books again. MR WILLOWBY'S CHRISTMAS TREE is a really great story. Kathleen even read it when she was a little girl! That's super cool.

Oh wait! Before I get started, I need to make my cup of hot chocolate with lots of whippy cream. I'll be back in a little bit.

I hope you read along with me.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Grace asked me if I am a bear that hibernates. Well, I do sleep a lot but I don't hibernate. But if you ask Moosey-Moose he would probably disagree with me because he doesn't think I do anything except sleep. I do lots of things, like I read books. I do chores. I make hot cocoa with whippy cream, I bake brownies. Oh, that reminds me. Grace gave me a recipe for banana cocoa! Maybe I'll try making that this weekend.

Well, I have to go now. Bye,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Book Buddies and Friends,

I'm finally getting around to answering my mail. I've been busy perusing the book shelves for a new story to read.

Isau suggested I read THE MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF EDWARD TULANE. I agree it is a wonderful book and I'm happy that Isau makes movies in her head when she reads. But I read that book already and I really want to read something new. Maybe the new book by the same author called THE MAGICIAN'S ELEPHANT. What do you think?

Grace, yes, I did get the notepad you made for me and I love it! I will use it when I start my next book. It is a very clever notepad, too. I want to know more about the book you wrote.

Steven, I have never played the computer game Roblox. In fact, I have never even heard of it. OK, well, to tell you the truth, I don't play computer games. I know lots of kids play them but I would much rather read a book or play a board game like SCRABBLE! Or MONOPOLY. Do you like to play board games?

I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving tomorrow has a wonderful day. And for everyone else, have a wonderful day, too!

Thanks for writing to me. I really enjoy reading your comments to me.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies!

Guess what? I finally finished reading STUART LITTLE. I really enjoyed the story. Did you? Stuart reminded me a little bit of Moosey-Moose. They both like adventures. I wonder if he ever finds his bird friend. I hope so. I wonder if there is another book that continues the story.

One of my favorite parts was when Stuart was sailing the boat in Central Park. I've never been on a boat before. It sounds like fun.

Well, I don't know what book to read next. Do you have any suggestions? I could read the new one by Kate DiCamillo called THE MAGICIAN'S ELEPHANT. What do you think?

Oh, maybe you can help me with something. I'm trying to get Moosey-Moose to read more books. What can I do to encourage him?

I can't wait to hear from you and all your book suggestions to read next.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies,

I hope you are enjoying STUART LITTLE. Stuart had a very exciting adventure in chapter 7! I learned two new words. One is flotsam on page 41 and the other word is ominous on page 41. If you look up the words in the dictionary and tell me the correct meaning then I will send you one of my bookmarks! You have to be one of the first five people to reply.

Do you know what tapioca pudding is? Stuart's mother made him some. I wonder what it's like. Maybe I should try to make some!

Let's read chapters 10, 11, and 12 for next Tuesday. How does that sound?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hello Book Buddies,

Oh boy! Stuart Little sure got himself into a predicament this time when he got stuck in the window blinds. Well, part of it was Snowball's fault. Snowball reminded me of Moosey-Moose because Moosey-Moose likes to play tricks on other people. I don't think Snowball likes Stuart. I think Snowball feels threatened by Stuart because Snowball used to be the only critter who lived with the Little family. What do you think?

I wrote down some new sticky note words, too. The first one is tartly on page 30. It means a sharp or bitter comment. Sometimes it means a food is tart like a blueberry pie without enough sugar in it. Yuck!

My second sticky note word is sloop on page 33, which means a one masted ship, which means a boat with only one sail. WOW! This is fun, learning new words.

How about we read chapters 7, 8, and 9 this week? I think we can do that. Don't forget to write sticky notes for all the tricky words and then we can share them.

Your Book Buddy,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Wow! I have a lot of mail to answer.

Grace, thanks for letting me know what violet water is. I checked with Kathleen and she says you are right!

I have not read the book GILLY HOPKINS. But maybe I will because my friends tell me it is a super good book. Why is it so good?

Moosey-Moose started to learn how to read last year. But, he gave up before he got to chapter books. Maybe if we all encourage him, he'll try again!

Yes, I love Christmas and snow. That is my most favorite time of the year. Hey! I just looked at the calendar. It's almost winter time again! I can't wait. I hope I get to make snowmen and snow angels again.

Well, I'm going to go read some more STUART LITTLE so I can blog about it tomorrow.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies!

I really like this story! This is me reading and eating a sticky bun pastry. YUM! YUM!

I want to share some of my sticky-notes. Hey, that's a coincidence - sticky bun and sticky notes! Anyway, on page 2 I learned a new word - shinny. It means to climb quickly by clinging with the arms and legs. I'm going to try to use that word in a sentence today.

My second sticky note is on page 3. When the doctor took Stuart's temperature it was 98.6. Did you know that is the same temperature for people, too? I thought that was interesting. I think Stuart is more like a human than people think he is.

On page 6 I wrote a sticky-note to remind me to ask Kathleen what violet water is. I will ask her today. And finally, on page 10 I wrote down another word, louse. It means an insect.

Well, I hope you are enjoying STUART LITTLE as much as I am. I hope you write to me soon about your favorite parts of the story or maybe some more new words.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies,
I chose my new book for my book club! I'm very excited to read STUART LITTLE by E. B. White. Did you know that E. B. White also wrote CHARLOTTE'S WEB?

Well, I'll give you a couple of days to get a copy of STUART LITTLE before I start asking all kinds of questions and sharing what I'm thinking while I'm reading.

Oh, if you need a bookmark, be sure to let me know and I will mail one to you.

Happy Reading,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Grace just asked me if she can give my blog address to her friend. Absolutely! I like making new friends.

I think I'm going to read STUART LITTLE next. What do you think?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies!

I finished reading NATE THE GREAT. It was a really fun book. I'm glad Nate the Great solved his mystery. But I don't think he liked the present he got from Rosamond. I think Nate the Great likes pancakes. What do you think?

Well, I need to choose a new book. I'm planning to go to the bookstore today. I think I will find something there. If you have suggestions, let me know. Some people have already suggested books, so I will keep those in mind when I'm shopping.

Oh, and Jason, I love my new hat! Thank you.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Book Buddies,

Time for me to get caught up on my mail. I love getting comments from all my readers! You are all really great friends.

First, I don't know what Roblox.com is. I don't usually play computer games. I'm too busy reading books for my book clubs.

Speaking of book clubs, Grace suggested PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I think Kathleen saw the movie. It sounds like a really good book. But, I like to choose books that no one has read yet so it's new for everyone. One way to find out about new books is to ask a librarian, your teacher, or to browse around in bookstores. That one is my favorite! Sometimes I go to the really big bookstores and find a cozy spot on a shelf with new friends, books, and stay there for hours choosing the best book to take home.

I'm very excited about all the kids who are learning how to crochet. That's super cool. Uh oh! Now I'm sounding like Moosey-Moose. He always says super cool.

Well, bye for now, write again soon.

Sleepy Bear Receives a Gift!

Hi Friends,

Look at what I got! One of Mrs. Hunter's students named Jason learned how to crochet in class and he made a hat for me. It has a little tassel on it for decoration. Oh, and he wrote a really nice note and drew a picture of me, too. I'm going to hang the picture up on my wall. Thank you, Jason!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies,

Did you find Sweden? I did. Here's a link to a map in case you need some help. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps/europe/sweden/

I have read pages 1 - 17. So far I've learned where Scandinavia is on a map and where Sweden is, too. It looks really far away. Someday maybe I will visit there. But back to Nate. I'm very curious about what Rosamond lost. It sounds very peculiar. Do you know what peculiar means? That's a word I learned last year. If you don't know what it mean, try looking it up in a dictionary. If you get stuck, write to me and I will help you out.

I also think it's funny that Rosamond took her four cats with her! I live with three cats. I can't imagine what it would be like to travel with four.

Well, Nate found out what Rosamond lost but he still doesn't know where it is. I'll tell you more later in case you haven't read to page 17. I don't want to spoil it for you.

I hope you are enjoying our book club.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies!

Guess what? I finally chose a new book to read!

I have always wanted to read NATE THE GREAT and Kathleen had a few on her desk, so I'm borrowing one. This one is called NATE THE GREAT SAVES THE KING OF SWEDEN, by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat.
I don't know where Sweden is but I plan to find it on a map. Let's see who can find it first. OK. Ready. Set. Go!
Write to me when you find it.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Boys and Girls,

I'm feeling much better! Now I can tell Moosey-Moose that I accept his apology. I didn't want to get him sick so I thought I should wait until I felt better.

One of my readers asked me if I read comic books. Yes! I love to read comic books. I like the Teen Titans, and Donald Duck. Which ones do you like to read?

Another reader asked me if I can plant more bulbs since last year the ones I planted didn't grow. I told Kathleen I want to try again but I have to wait for her to go to the plant store and buy some more. Maybe she will go this weekend. I'll ask her.

I'm glad you liked PINOCCHIO. I really liked it, too. I'm not sure what book to read next. I have to give that some thought. Do you have suggestions?

Well, I need to go now. I want to make myself a cup of hot chocolate with lots of whippy cream. YUM!

Sleepy Bear Gets Mail and a Gift!

Hi Friends,

Look at what I got!
Moosey-Moose gave me a Venus Fly Trap plant. I've been wanting one ever since I read about Judy Moody getting one. It's really cool! I've been watching it eat itsy bitsy flies.

Moosey-Moose also wrote a really nice letter to apologize for going to Portland and making me do all his chores. I think he is really sorry. I'm going to tell him that I accept his apology. I missed his friendship, even if he is sometimes a real rascal!

Seepy Bear Answers Some Mail

Hi Friends,

I want to try to answer the questions that some of you are asking me. If I don't answer yours, it's because my little bear brain didn't remember.

Natalie, I think you can by the book THE MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF EDWARD TULANE at one of the big bookstores at the shopping mall. Sometimes the school book sales have it, too. I agree with you, it is a really great book. One of my favorites, too!

Someone asked me about the bulbs I tried to grow. Well, that didn't work out very good for me. You see, one day we had a really big wind storm and well, the wind blew the container over and all the dirt fell out and the bulbs fell out and rolled down the stairs. I tried to plant them again, but I think they got bonked around too much and then they didn't grow. I was very sad when that happened.

Well, that's it for now. I can't wait to read more comments from you. Have a great day!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - PINOCCHIO

Hi Book Buddies,

Well, I read a few pages of A LONG WAY TO CHICAGO and then I read a few pages of PINOCCHIO. I decided that PINOCCHIO was "just right" for me. I hope you don't mind if we read PINOCCHIO first.

I read the first chapter today. I'm very curious about what Geppetto will do with the scrap of wood. Let's read chapter two tomorrow.

Sleepy Bear Needs to Choose a New Book!

Hi Book Buddies,

Well, I can't decide what to read first. Some boys and girls want to read A LONG WAY FROM HOME by Richard Peck. Some boys and girls want to read PINOCCHIO by Carlo Collodi. The first one is a Newberry Honor book. The second one is a classic.

I need to decide tomorrow so write to me to tell me which one we should read first.

Books! Books! Books!

Hi Book Buddies!

I'm excited to start our new book club! Here are a few books I thought of that we can choose from. Send me a comment to let me know which one you would like to read. And, if you have ideas, send those to me, too.

GINGER PYE by Eleanor Estes - This book is about the Pye family. Ginger is really the family dog until somone steals him!

MANIAC MAGEE by Jerry Spinelli - This book is about a boy who loves to run but he can do a lot more than just run. He has a very special talent!

A LONG WAY FROM CHICAGO by Richard Peck - This book is about Mary Alice and Joey who go to their Grandma's for a boring visit. Except when they get there, nothing is boring!

These all sound really great! I hope to hear from you soon.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club Is Back!

Hi Book Buddies,

I'm sorry if you showed up at Mockingbird Books last night for our book club meeting and found out that the store was closed! I don't know what happened. Nobody told me that the book club was cancelled.

So now maybe you are wondering what to do. Well, I have a solution! I will host a book club on my blog, just like I used to do before I joined Mockingbird Books. Except now the book club will be for boys and girls and we won't meet at Mockingbird Books anymore. Instead, we'll share our thinking about our reading on my blog!

I will think of some books to choose from and you can think of books to choose from, too, and then we will share our lists and then decide on a book to read. How's that?

I'm super excited!!!!

Sleepy Bear Gets a Stinky Surprise!

Hi Buddies,

Guess what? I can't find Moosey-Moose!! He's supposed to do all my chores for me for one whole entire month. That's not all. Since he's gone somewhere, no one has cleaned the cat's litter box!

I smelled something super duper stinky so I followed my nose. It got worse the closer I got to the bottom of the stairs. I peeked inside the cat box and what a horrible, icky, stinky sight that was. I found a can of air freshener to help clear the air until I can get the cat boxes cleaned out. Poor kitties!

Then, I thought - if Moosey-Moose wasn't around to clean the cat boxes, then maybe he feed the birds, either. Guess what again? One bird feeder is almost empty and the tall one is empty. Poor birdies!
So much for my relaxing month to spend reading and playing in the backyard. If you know where Moosey-Moose is, will you please let me know? And tell him to get back home fast.
I have lots of work to do so bye for now,
Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Judy Moody

Hi Book Buddies!

I'm still reading JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS. I know, I should be finished with this one by now, but I got distracted (that's a sticky-note word!). I was reading one of Moosey-Moose's comic books. I like comic books, too. Have you read any comics? I'm reading TEEN TITANS. They do great things to help other people in danger.

OK, back to JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS!

Please write to me about what books you like reading and about Judy Moody.

Hi Book Buddies!

I'm reading book number 2. It's called JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS. She really wants to be famous like her friends. So far I've learned some new words. One is nocturnal and the other one is mealworms. Can you look them up in the dictionary and then tell me what you find out?

Well, I'll write more tomorrow. I hope you are enjoying the JUDY MOODY books!

Sleepy Bear Used His Words in SCRABBLE!

Hi Friends,

Look at all the nifty words I made with my SCRABBLE letters!

Moosey-Moose was not in a very good mood. I think he thought he was going to win, especially after I lost a turn with my word ARES. I don't feel bad about losing that turn. I learned something new.

But, after a few more rounds. Guess what? Yeppers! I WON!!!! And do you remember what happens now? OK, I'll tell you. Moosey-Moose has to do all my chores for one whole entire month! I think he needs to start with feeding the birds. Their bird feeders are completely empty.
Moosey-Moose is kind of grumpy. I think he thought he was going to win for sure. He was even planning his next adventure. I guess he'll have to wait to do that.
Now, what will I do with all my free time?
Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Judy Moody

Hi Book Buddies!

I finished reading the first book in the JUDY MOODY series. I really liked it. I think Judy is really funny and Kathleen says she's spunky. I like that word, SPUNKY. And she's smart.

I learned a lot from Judy Moody. Like about the Venus Fly Trap plant. I never heard of one before. I'm going to ask Kathleen to buy one for me, too.

I wonder if toads really pee in your paw when you hold them. I don't want a toad to find out. But if you try it, let me know what happens.

I really like how Judy Moody turned her ME Collage into something super duper even after the Jungle Juice squirted on it. Have you ever had something like that happen?

Write to me about your favorite parts.

I'm going to start reading the second book. It's called, JUDY MOODY GETS FAMOUS.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Judy Moody

Hi Book Buddies,

Sorry I did not blog earlier today. I've been reading Judy Moody all day. I'm reading Book 1 first because I've never read any Judy Moody books before. It's called, JUDY MOODY WAS IN A MOOD. NOT A GOOD MOOD. A BAD MOOD.

It's a little strange to read about Judy Moody going back to school when it's still only July! But I know how she feels about starting the new school year and you have to get used to all kinds of new stuff. Do you like the first day of school? I know Kathleen always likes the first day of school. Even when she was a little girl she always looked forward to the first day of school. She says it's like a whole new adventure waiting to happen! Do you like the first day of school?

I also like the project that Judy gets to make - her ME collage. Kathleen does something like that with her students. I think I would like to make one. But first, I need to finish my game of SCRABBLE with Moosey-Moose. Psst, I think I'm going to win. But don't tell Moosey-Moose I said that.

I'm going to read some more Judy Moody before I have to go to sleep. I hope you blog back to me.

Sleepy Bear and His Big SCRABBLE Words

Hi Friends,

Look at my super great words!

I learned the word SABER when I read a story about Merlin and King Arthur. Don't you think it's a great sticky-note word? And then I got the words THEIR like something belongs to a bunch of people, like THEIR book.

I love SCRABBLE!!!!
I don't think Moosey-Moose is having a very good time.

Sleepy Bear Plays SCRABBLE

Hi Friends,

My SCRABBLE game with Moosey-Moose is great! I have 107 points and Moosey-Moose has only 73!!!
But, now I have a dilemma (that's a sticky note word!). I made the word ARES but Moosey-Moose is challenging me. He says it's not a word. I thought it was. But now I'm not sure anymore. I can take the letters off the board and try a different word OR Moosey-Moose can try to find it in the dictionary. If it's not in the dictionary then I have to take the letters off the board and I lose my turn. That could cost me lots of points.

What should I do??

Hi Book Buddies,

Look what I got!
The bookstore had a box set of the first three Judy Moody books! I can't wait to start reading the first one. And, look at the really cool colors on the covers. That's new. They used to be just brown and black print.

Be sure to write to me to tell me about your favorite Judy Moody book. We will meet again at Mockingbird Books on Wednesday August 19. But you can check my blog each week to share what you are reading, too.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Judy Moody

Hi Book Buddies,

I hope you enjoyed reading THE PUPPY PLACE books. I know I did. But now it is time to start our new books.

Last night at Mockingbird Books we decided to read the JUDY MOODY books. Oh, and guess what? The cover of the books are going to look a little bit different. The publisher, that's the company that turns the story into a book, is adding color to the covers of all of Judy Moody's books!! I saw pictures of them and they look super duper!

And, when you go the library or bookstore to get your books, look for the new treasure hunt activity book with Stink, Judy Moody's brother, too.

I'm going to the bookstore now to get my new books. Check back later to see which ones I decided to read first!

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Book Buddies and Friends,

I want to answer a couple of questions from Delilah.

She asked if TIGER RISING is a good book. Yes! I loved reading that book. And guess what? It was the first book we read for my book club. If you look at my blogs from November, you'll get to read what I wrote about the book. Sometimes I share what I'm thinking when I'm reading. Sometimes I ask questions. And sometimes I share the new words I learned. I write those on sticky notes. Be sure to start at the beginning. Let me know if you have any questions, too.

Delilah also suggested new books for the girls' book club at Mockingbird Books. I love THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX. That is one of my all time favorite books. I think the JUDY MOODY books are a good choice, too. I wonder if Delilah will be able to join us on Wednesday night for our monthly book club meeting at Mockingbird Books. I hope so!

I'm getting myself ready to ask Moosey-Moose if he wants to play a game of SCRABBLE with me. I'm going to tell him that the loser has to do the winner's chores for a whole month! I am so tired of doing his chores. He thinks he's going to go away on a vacation because he has lots of free time. I think he is going to be in for a huge surprise!!

I can't wait to read more comments from all my blog readers.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - THE PUPPY PLACE

Hi Book Buddies!

I love the PUPPY PLACE books. I finished reading Snowball and I loved it! It made me look forward to winter already.

Earlier this week I read Shadow. He is very cute on the cover of the book. I think it was really cool how Lizzie and Charles found him a new home as a seeing eye dog in training. I've seen dogs in town that wear the green vest that tells people the dog is in training. That's a lot of responsibility for the dog. I'm sure Shadow will do a great job!

Yesterday I read Rascal. He sure was a rascal. Sometimes Kathleen calls me a rascal but only when I get into mischief. That doesn't happen too many times. Mostly Moosey-Moose is the one getting into trouble. He's a big rascal. But don't tell him I said that.

I made a prediction that Rascal would find his forever home with the horses. And I was right! It was a perfect home for him.

Did you make any predictions?

What was your favorite part?

What is your favorite PUPPY PLACE BOOK?

Next Wednesday, July 15, we meet at Mockingbird Books. If you can't make it, be sure to write to me about books you want to read for next month. Maybe the Nancy Drew Notebook series?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - THE PUPPY PLACE

Hi Book Buddies,

I just finished reading SNOWBALL. That puppy reminds me of Kathleen's cat when it was a tiny kitten - all white and fluffy.

I was hoping Snowball would get to live with Mrs. Peabody. I felt sorry for her because she was living in a new place and had to give up her own dog, and she didn't have any new friends yet. That sounds very lonely.

Charles has to write a lot of letters at school. I know Kathleen teaches her students how to write letters. Writing my blog is like writing a letter, too. Except I get to use the computer. Charles had to write everything with a pencil. Do you ever write letters?

My favorite part in SNOWBALL was when the puppy ran out of the bath tub with soapy suds all over him and he ran through the house. I could picture that in my mind. What a mess that would be! What was your favorite part?

I'm going to read SHADOW next. Kathleen used to have a cat named Shadow.

Write soon.

Sleepy Bear Does More Chores!

Hi,

I'm still not a happy camper. So far my summer has not been good.

Moosey-Moose tracked in dirt from the garden. I think he should have to clean up after himself.

Then I had to fill the bird feeders with more bird seed. They've been empty for two weeks! I feel sorry for the birdies. I hope they come back.

After my chores today, I sat down for a snack. I made a mini cup of hot cocoa with extra whippy cream and a little biscuit cookie with chocolate frosting. Yummy!!!!
I need to tell Moosey-Moose about my plan for a challenge game of SCRABBLE. Wish me luck!

Sleepy Bear Cleans the Cat Box?

Hi,

As you can see, I'm not a very happy camper today. I don't understand how I lost so many games of dominoes with Moosey-Moose. I really tried my best but I lost anyway. I just don't understand. And why did I agree the loser would do the winner's chores? I don't know what I was thinking that day.

Maybe I can challenge Moosey-Moose with a different game, like maybe, SCRABBLE! I'm really good making words. Hmmm... I will give that idea some more thought. In the mean time, I have more chores to do.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - New Book!

Hi Book Buddies,

Look what I'm reading! I've never read books about puppies before. This month for our book club we're reading THE PUPPY PLACE books by Ellen Miles. I have the first four books. I started reading GOLDIE yesterday. So far my favorite part is when Goldie plays with Rufus. It sounds like they are really having fun!

On page 40 when Goldie needs to stay in a crate while her owners are away reminds of Angelo, Kathleen's cat, who needs to stay in a crate for a few week because he broke his arm. The crate is really big. It used to belong to Kathleen's friends who have dogs.

I'm learning some new words in this book. So far I've learned soot on page 17 and socialization on page 43.

I can't wait to read what is your favorite PUPPY PLACE book and your favorite parts of the books.

Write soon. Your book buddy,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear Cozies Up With His New Scarf

Hi Friends,
Looky at what I have! Well, Moosey-Moose and I both have a new scarf! One of Kathleen's students crocheted it for us. I think she did a fabulous job. All of the stitches are even and the yarn she chose is super soft. I also like the colors. If you look really close you can see an "S" on my side and an "M" on Moosey-Moose's side. She crocheted the letters onto the scarf.

I really love my new scarf.

Thank you!

Your friend,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - New Book!

Hi Book Buddies!

It's time to start our new book for the next month. But first, I want to tell you about our meeting yesterday at Mockingbird Books.

First, Sue gave us pizza to munch on. It was really yummy and it had pepperoni on it. Then we talked about all of the BABYMOUSE books. We each shared something from our favorite book.

One girl has read all of them! WOW! I think that is a super accomplishment. Well, she liked something different from each book. But her favorite book was CAMP BABYMOUSE. She liked the part where Babymouse thinks a garden hose and two sticks are snakes! Well, even I might get them mixed up if I had never been camping before. She also shared BABYMOUSE THE MUSICAL. That one reminded me of stories Kathleen tells me about when she used to work for a company that makes musical show performances on a stage.

Kathleen's favorite book was BEACH BABE. She said she felt sorry for Squeak but liked how Babymouse finally learned that she had a best friend with her at the beach the whole time! That reminded me of Moosey-Moose when he sometimes doesn't want to play with me.

OK, now the part you've really been waiting for! We decided we would read THE PUPPY PLACE books by Ellen Miles. I've never read any of these books and I've never read a book that has a puppy as the main character. I can't wait to get started. I don't know which one I'll read first. But you can read as many as you want. Then at our next meeting on July 15 we will share our favorite PUPPY PLACE books.

Be sure to check back for more about THE PUPPY PLACE.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Wow! I'm super excited that you want to start another book club. Most of you want to read the books in the BONES series. I think that would be lots of fun. Graphic novels are fun to read and I especially like to read the pictures, too. Let's start today. Should we start with book number 1?

Thank you to everyone who has asked for my bookmark. OK, well, Moosey-Moose's, too. I'm glad you like them. I think I look extra cute in my pictures. Moosey-Moose says I don't look cool like he does.

Someone asked me when I was going to go on a trip again with Moosey-Moose. Well, I asked Kathleen and she said we have a trip planned to Portland, Oregon later in the summer and another trip to Los Angeles near the end of the summer. Both of those trips sound like fun to me. I've never been to Portland. I've been to Los Angeles and to the beach. I love the beach except for the sand in my fur part. I don't like that. Maybe my friends Big Bear and Scaredy Pup will join me again! I need to call them on the phone this weekend.

I plan to spend a lot of time in my backyard lying on my blanket, reading books. Kathleen says she is going to do lots of reading a writing this summer. Maybe I can help her.

Well, thanks for blogging. I hope to hear from you again soon.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Week 4

Hi Book Buddies,

Have you read all the BABYMOUSE books? I think I know everything there is to know about Babymouse. She's a funny mouse. How would you describe Babymouse to your best friend?

I'm curious about why the authors chose to use pink and black for the books' colors. Well, except for MONSTER MASH. What do you think?

Do you have a favorite BABYMOUSE book now that you have read more of them?

Remember, we are meeting at Mockingbird Books on Wednesday June 17 at 7:00 pm. Sue will have pizza and cookies and milk for us to munch on while we discuss our books. I can't wait. I love pizza but it's a little messy to eat with my paws!

Oh, and you can start thinking about what books you want to read for next month. Should we read FASHION KITTY? Or maybe FAIRY BLOSSOMS? Bring some of your favorite books on Wednesday and then we can choose one or maybe two of them.

Sleepy Bear Says Hello

Hi Friends and Book Buddies,

I want to try to answer some mail.

I will tell Angelo that you say hello. Poor kitty. I think he's really sorry he took that spill off the shelf. But I keep telling him it was an accident. One more week and the vet will take off his cast!

Oh, about the BABYMOUSE book club. Well, when we meet at the Mockingbird Bookstore it's for girls only. But, if you read my blog each week, that part is for girls AND boys. So, even if you are a boy, of course you can read BABYMOUSE. I'll never say "No" to reading a book.

Moosey-Moose said something about the Science Center. I've never been there. He said I will have to read his blog because he said Kathleen went there with her students and she's been telling him all about it. I told him I would read his blog if he reads mine.

Oh, I'm still thinking about reading BONE. Write to me if you are interested or if you have another book you want to read for a book club that is for everyone.

Well, that's all for now.

Your friend,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Week 3

Hi Book Buddies,

Wow! It sure is hot outside. I like to drink hot cocoa with lots of whippy cream but it’s too hot for hot cocoa. Soooo, I made cold cocoa with lots of whippy cream! Oh, and do you see the nice light blue coaster that my cup is sitting on? Well, one of Kathleen’s students crocheted that for me. She did a very nice job. I’d better hide it from Moosey-Moose or he might try to use it, too.

Are you having fun reading the BABYMOUSE books? I like them a lot.
I finished reading Beach Babe. That one was really funny. But Babymouse wasn’t very nice to Squeak. Why do you think she wasn’t nice to him at first?

I learned some new words in Beach Babe. One is sarcophagus on page 33. Another one is cuisine on page 37. I’ve heard Kathleen use that one before when she cooks fancy meals for her friends. But I’m not sure what it means. Do you know? I think it has something to do with food.

Oh, if you want a bookmark, just let me know and I will mail one to you. But remember to ask permission first.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Friends,

Thank you for writing to me. I loooove getting blog comments.

I will try my best to answer all your questions.

One person asked me if I will have a summer blog. Absolutely! I like that word. Anyway, I plan to blog all summer long. And, I will my book clubs, too. Then, when you return to school in you can tell your teacher about all the great books you read.

I don't know if I will go any place this summer. I might want to stay home and sip ice cold chocolate milk with whippy cream and read and sleep. I know Moosey-Moose wants to go on an adventure. He always gets into lots of mischief.

The boys want to have their own book club. And someone suggested BONE. Well, that is a great idea. When should we start and which book should we read first?

OK, one last question. Someone asked me if I was ever in a little league baseball team. No. I'm not very good at sports. Moosey-Moose is the one who likes to run around and get dirty and scraped.

Well, watch for my blog tomorrow about more BABYMOUSE.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Week 2

Hi Book Buddies,

Today was a perfect day to read outside on my deck. Well, it's not really mine. It belongs to Kathleen. But she likes to read outside so I wanted to try it, too. I could hear the birds chirping in the trees.

I'm reading BEACH BABE. So far I like it but I haven't finished it.

Kathleen read MONSTER MASH this afternoon. She read it with one of her students in her classroom. Her student said he liked it. He made some predictions along the way. One was that he thought Felicia Furrypaws was going to play a trick on Babymouse after she invited herself to Babymouse's party. I knew that was not going to be a good idea. I remember what happened in the first book. I don't trust Felicia Furrypaws.

Kathleen says she likes finding out what kind of trouble Babymouse's locker is going to give her each day at school. Kathleen wonders if Babymouse will ever get to turn in her book report. I hope so. I know writing a book report is hard work. I think Babymouse should get credit for that.

Kathleen's student also said that he made a connection with Babymouse. Sometimes he doesn't always make the right choice about who he makes as his friends. He said that Babymouse should have spent Halloween with Wilson instead of trying to be with the popular group that caused trouble. I agree!

Well, I hope you are enjoying Babymouse. I can't wait to read your comments to me.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Week 2

Hello Book Buddies,

I really like the Babymouse books! So far I have read SKATER GIRL, OUR HERO, QUEEN OF THE WORLD!, and ROCK STAR. Kathleen is in the middle of reading MONSTER MASH. The cover on that one is really different. The colors are orange and black and Babymouse is dressed up like a mummy. Do you know about mummies? That would be a fun research project!

OK, back to Babymouse. One of my favorite parts in SKATER GIRL is on pages 48 -51 when a leprechaun tricks Babymouse and makes her fall into a pile of slime. Except, I think that was only in Babymouse''s imagination. I agree, she really should get a new locker at school.

My most favorite part is on page 54 when Babymouse falls on the ice AGAIN. But she decides to stay lying down to save time. I should try that at home. I will tell Kathleen that I'm going to stay in bed and sleep so I can save time going to sleep again. I wonder what Kathleen will say. What do you think?

Kathleen says she will tell me later today about her favorite parts of MONSTER MASH so be sure to check back this afternoon to read more about Babymouse.

I hope to read some of your comments, too.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club for Girls with Mockingbird Books - Week 1

Hi New Book Buddies and my Old Favorites!

Last night was our first meeting at Mockingbird Books. Kathleen told me you had a really fun time. You talked about your favorite BABYMOUSE books and some of your other favorite books, too. Sue had a really fun time, too.

Kathleen shared that her favorite BABYMOUSE book is Rock Star. She thinks the beginning of the story is the best part when Babymouse travels in a limousine to go to her concert. Except, it's only her daydream and she's really going to school! That would be really fun to ride in a limousine to school.

Another girl shared her post-it notes about her BABYMOUSE book. That's a good idea to write down what you are thinking about when you are reading. I also write down tricky words or new magnet words.

We made some decisions about our book club, just like the grownups do when they have a book club. We decided we would read more BABYMOUSE books for our next meeting. One girl chose Rock Star and Skater Girl. Kathleen chose Monster Mash and Beach Babe.

We decided that for our next meeting we want to have pizza, cookies to munch on, and cold milk to help wash it all down! Yuuuuummmmmy!!! But remember, if you can't join us next month, that's OK! You can still read my blog every Thursday and I will have notes for you to read about our book club. And, if you have questions about your book, you can ask me, too, and I will do my very, very, best to help you.

I'm really happy we have our new book club. I love to read and now I get to share books with some new friends. I hope to read your comments soon.

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #6 - Day 1

Hi Book Buddies!

Guess what? I'm starting a new book club. This one is for girls ages 6-10 (sorry boys, I'll have another book club just for you, too!). The bookstore in my neighborhood is helping me. It's called Mockingbird Books in Greenlake, Washington. This is their website address: http://mockingbirdbooksgl.com/

A really nice lady who works at the bookstore is going to help me. Her name is Sue. This is her website address: http://www.suenevinsbookseller.com/bookgroups.html And of course, Kathleen will help me, too. This is her website address: http://www.kathleenhunterwrites.com/

Our first meeting is on Wednesday May 20, 2009 at 7pm.

So, girls, bring your favorite Baby Mouse book by Jennifer and Matthew Holm. We'll have fun talking about the books and then we can choose one for our next meeting.

I'm really, really, really excited! I hope to see you at Mockingbird Books on Wednesday.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #5 - Day 6

Hi Book Buddies,

WOW! The Spiderwick Chronicles was a really fun book. I'm very curious about what might happen next. I guess I will have to read the next book in the series to find out. But first, I want to tell you about two new words. The first one is sconce on page 98 and the second one is ire on page 104. I read the picture for sconce and I think it is a light that hangs on the wall. Kathleen has two in her library at home. There is one on each side of the fireplace.

I don't know what ire means so I will have to look that one up in the dictionary.

I'm glad for Jared that his sister and brother are finally believing him that he didn't cause all the problems in the house.

Well, what should we do? Should we read the next book in the series or try something new? Let me know what you think.

Your Book Buddy,

Sleepy Bear
