Sleepy Bear Reads a Favorite Halloween Book

Hi Book Buddies,

Moosey-Moose is still on his adventure. He got stuck in a snow storm. Do you know where he is? I’ll give you another hint. Our president lives in the city that Moosey-Moose visited.

Since Moosey-Moose is not home yet, I’m reading a favorite Halloween book. It’s not scary at all!

Room On the Broom - #1

It is called, Room On the Broom, by Julia Donaldson. Axel Scheffler drew the pictures.

Room On the Broom - #2

One reason this is my favorite book is because it rhymes! That makes it fun to read.

Room On the Broom - #3

Another reason I like this book is because it is funny! The witch invites friends to join her on her broom.

Room On the Broom - #4

Uh Oh! the witch and her friends are flying in a rain storm. All her friends get wet, too. At least the witch has a cape and a hat.

I won’t tell you the ending but it is funny! Ask an adult to take you to a bookstore or the library so you can read it, too. Then write back to me and tell me your favorite parts.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Sleepy Bear Reads Another Story for Halloween

Hi Book Buddies,

I’m reading another story from Tales of Mystery and Magic.

Tales of Mystery and Magic - Intro

I told Kathleen I didn’t want to read at night because I was too scaredy. She said, “Okay.” So I waited until today.

Story #2 - Page 1

I didn’t know I would get so lucky and have a super sunny day!

The story I am reading is called, “The Blackbird and His Wife”. This story is from India.

I like this one because it has a lot of sound words like RAT-TAT-TAT, and THUMP, THUMP, THUMP. Words like that are called onomatopoeia words. That is a tricky word to spell.

Story #2 - Page 2

The story is about a lady blackbird and she is captured by a king. The blackbird’s husband wants to save her.

So, the husband blackbird gets ready to go to battle with the king. Along the way the husband blackbird gathers some helpers.

Story #2 - Page 3

The husband blackbird is also captured by the king. On the final day the husband blackbird calls to the river.

The river comes to the king’s house and causes a flood. The king is cold and shivers. Finally, the king lets both of blackbirds free!

Whew! This was not a scary story at all! Lucky me.

I hope you get to read this story at home. If you want to, ask an adult to help you go to the Barefoot Books website. Here is the link:http://www.barefootbooks.com/marketplace/14036/

Have a happy and a safe Halloween!

Sleepy Bear Reads Another Scary Story– In Daylight!

Hi Book Buddies,

Remember last week when Moosey-Moose and I read a scary story for Halloween? And remember how scaredy I got? Well, this time I’m going to read a scary story in the morning. When there is daylight. Also, I might have to read at home alone because Moosey-Moose is busy packing for his next adventure. I don’t know where he is going. But I do know he needs to take an airplane ride.

Check back tomorrow for my next scary story!

“The Strange Visitor” –Sleepy Bear’s Halloween Story

Hi Book Buddies,

Just like I promised, I’m back with my hot cocoa with goo-gobs of whippy cream and more candy corns on top. Oh, and my cookie!

My best friend, Moosey-Moose is joining me tonight.

Moosey-Moose and Sleepy Bear Begin the Story

The story begins with an old lady sitting by herself at home. She is sewing and she wants company.

Moosey-Moose and Sleepy Bear - the story gets creepy

Little by little, a person comes through her door. First his legs and feet.

I like the pattern in this story. It is easy to make predictions about what the puppet man will say next.

Moosey-Moose and Sleepy Bear - the story gets and creepier

Then his body and arms came through the door. Then his head.

I was scared so Moosey-Moose sat next to me.

And guess what the creepy puppet man said next?

Well, I won’t tell you. Maybe you will want to read the book at home. If you do, I hope you write to me and tell me what the creepy man said to the old lady.

Moosey-Moose, did you like this story?

This is a super creepy story! It was like taking an adventure, inside of a book! And you know I like adventures. Maybe I can join you for your next Halloween story.

Of course you can, Moosey-Moose. I like having you read with me, especially when the story is scary.

I really like your hot cocoa with goo-gobs of whippy cream! The cookie was yummy, too.

Book Buddies, I hope you liked this story.

Sleepy Bear’s Book for Halloween!

Hi Book Buddies,

I have a new book to read for Halloween! It is called Tales of Mystery and Magic. This book has seven different stories from seven different countries. The first one I am going to read is called, “The Strange Visitor” and it is from Scotland.

Tales of Mystery and Magic - Intro

I chose this one because my best friend, Moosey-Moose, went to Scotland. I hope he likes it.

I am all ready with my special Halloween mug. Kathleen filled it with hot cocoa and goo-gobs of whippy cream. She also put candy corn candies on top! YUM! And, I have my Halloween cookie to munch on while I read in front of the fireplace. I hope you join me!

Oh, if you want to get a copy of the book to read at home, ask an adult to help you go to the Barefoot Books website. Here is the link: http://www.barefootbooks.com/shop/?bf_affiliate_code=000-0bg1-4977

Sleepy Bear Reads the Last Pages of Paolo’s Adventures

Hi Book Buddies,

I just finished reading Paolo’s Adventures.

Wow! Poor Paolo. He really did have an adventure. First, he was born without any humans to take care of him. Then he had trouble breathing and he couldn’t run and play. Then he was rescued but taken to a scary place for surgery. But then he met a new friend named Teddy.

Thank goodness for Teddy to help Paolo be less afraid with all the doctors in a strange place.

Paolo Gets Well

Yippy! Paolo get’s his cast taken off! And the best part is now Paolo can run and play without getting tired.

The doctors did a great job fixing his ribs. Now Paolo’s lungs have room to move in and out. That’s what helps Paolo breathe.

Paolo didn’t have to go back to living on his own.

Paolo Finds His Forever Home

He was adopted. That means a people family took him home to live with them. Paolo’s brother and sisters were living with other nice people, too.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I really liked reading about Paolo and his adventure. I hope maybe one day I can meet Paolo in person! But for now, I have his book to read and re-read!

Thanks again to Carolyn Banguero for giving Kathleen this book so I can share it with all my Book Buddies.

My next book is going to be one about mystery and magic because Halloween is only a few weeks away. I hope you join me!

Sleepy Bear Reads More about Paolo’s Adventures

Hi Book Buddies,

I am so glad it’s cloudy outside and rainy. Days like this are perfect for staying indoors with a good friend, like a book! Today, my friend is Paolo’s Adventures.

Paolo is the kitty that was rescued because he needed surgery. It’s a little bit sad because he had to leave his brother and sisters. And scary for Paolo, too, because he didn’t know about people at first.

Paolo Learns About PeopleI like the way Paolo describes people for the first time. He said they have fur only on the tops of their heads! That’s funny!

Paolo And Fake Mice

I also live with cats. Three of them! They like to play with fake mice just like Paolo on page 11. Oh, and I live with one dog named Tsavo. Some of you have met her before.

Tsavo like to play with the fake mice before the cats get to them. I’m very happy we don’t have REAL mice!

This is Tsavo. Sometimes she likes to read with me.

Paolo Moves Around - a Lot!

Poor Paolo. He got moved around a lot. I think he was in a truck but he didn’t know that. Look at page 12. Do you think he is inside of a truck?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA On page 18 Paolo’s friend, Teddy, tells Paolo about the white coat he has to wear. One of the cats I live with, Angelo, had to wear a cast on his leg. He broke two bones. He was not very happy that summer. Tsavo is feeling sorry for Paolo. I will try to cheer her up.

I hope you like reading Paolo’s Adventures with me. Remember, if you want to get your own copy of this book, tell an adult to go to the author’s website. Here is the link: http://paolosadventures.com

Check back later and we can finish the book together.

Sleepy Bear Reads A New Book!

HI Book Buddies,

My reading and writing teacher, Kathleen, went to the Northwest Bookfest over the weekend. She met a whole bunch of authors who write children’s books.

I had a cold so I had to stay home. But, Kathleen brought home some books for me to read and share with my Book Buddies!

The first one I want to share with you is about a kitty named Paolo.

Book Cover

The name of the book is Paolo’s Adventures by Carolyn Banguero and illustrated by Betsy Schairer.

Paolo is a kitten that was born with injured ribs and that made it hard for him to breathe. This book tells the story about his adventure to get healthy!

Autographed Page to Sleep Bear!

Ms. Banguero autographed her book for me! I feel super special. She wrote, “Happy Reading”. Kathleen says that to her students and me, too.

The Story Begins

I have my hot chocolate with goo-gobs of whippy cream. That means I’m all ready to start reading! I hope you join me.

If you want to get your own copy of this picture book then you first need to ask an adult to help you. Tell them I told you about the book and this is the link to the author’s website:  http://paolosadventures.com

Check back tomorrow and I’ll tell you about the parts I have read so far.

Sleepy Bear
