Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR

Hi Book Buddies,

I just finished reading A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR. I was very surprised by the ending of the story. I never expected Mouse to give Bear red roller skates for a present. I have a prediction. I bet Bear is going to have an adventure on roller skates in his next book. I can't wait!

I hope you enjoyed reading with me. Finishing a book is always exciting because you get to find out what happens to your friends in the story. But it is sad at the same time because you have to say good-bye to them.

I guess it's time for me to make another new friend! What should we read next?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR

Hi Book Buddies,

I bet you think I'm reading upside down. Well, I kind of am upside down. One of my favorite ways to read a book is with my feet up the back of a sofa or a chair. Here at Mockingbird Books I got to try out the sofa in the book club room. You should try it sometime.

Well back to Bear and his birthday. I can't believe he turned down a large present that was wrapped up like a Christmas present. I would never do that. Especially since Mouse was really trying hard to make Bear's birthday a special day.

But, luckily for Bear, Mouse did not give up. Read chapter 4 to find out what he did!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR

Hi Book Buddies,

I hope you are enjoying the story about Bear and his birthday. He doesn't seem to be in a very good mood. I love having my birthday. I wonder if Bear is lonely. What do you think?

I was spending so much time at Mockingbird Books that I needed something to nibble on. I chose a chocolate chip cookie. Yum!
Mouse is very persistent, don't you think? He never gives up. I think Bear will be happy about that, eventually.
Oh, something I really like about this book is all the words that are sounds, like whisk and slop and squidjedy. Those are my favorites. Did you know that words like that have a name? They are called onomatopoeia words.
Check back tomorrow when we find out if Bear finally lets Mouse celebrate his birthday.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR

Hi Book Buddies,

I know, this doesn't look very comfortable but when I'm reading a good book, I can sit anywhere, even on the keys of an old piano! That's right, Mockingbird Books has a really big, black, old fashioned piano.

I read the first chapter. I can't believe Bear does not like birthday parties. I love birthday parties, especially at my house. I wonder if Bear will change his mind just like he did when he said he did not like visitors. What do you think will happen next?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR

Hi Book Buddies,

This is the book I chose for my book club! Some of you might remember that I read the first book about Bear. That book was called A VISITOR FOR BEAR. Both books are by Bonny Becker.
If you read the first book then you know that Bear didn't like visitors. Well, not until a mouse visited him everyday. Finally, Bear learned that he did like visitors. Well, now Bear does not like birthdays! I love birthdays, especially when there's a party with cuppy cakes with lots of whippy cream. But you already knew that about me.
I hope you join me in reading A BIRTHDAY FOR BEAR. Let's read the first chapter. Be sure to check back tomorrow and we can blog about what we read.
Happy Reading!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - A Visit to Mockingbird Books In Green Lake

Hi Book Buddies,

Look where I went today!

That's right, Mockingbird Books in Green Lake. I even climbed to the top of the sandwich board that stands on the sidewalk outside their door. They have a new website, too. That's where you can read about where the store is located and when they are open for book browsing. I can give you details about books in the store.

For example, Fancy Nancy has a book about cuppy cakes! Yum!! I love cuppy cakes, especially the kind with lots of whippy cream on top.

One of the best things about going to Mockingbird Books is that I get to take my time choosing which book to read. Plus, they have grownups who work there to help me decide.
Check back tomorrow to find out which one of these exciting books I chose for my book club.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STINK - The Incredible Shrinking Kid

Hi Book Buddies,

Today I spent a few hours in one of my favorite chairs. It's a dark brown, very dark brown, leather chair in our sun room. Except, today the sun was not shining very brightly. Oh well. I still had fun reading my book. I even finished my book!

Sometimes I cried while reading. Like when Judy turned on the garbage disposal instead of the light after Newt went down the drain! That was horrible!! Then I laughed when Stink made his comics about himself. I also learned a lot. Like a new song. Here's a link for the song, Frere Jacques: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wyKqvCg4gs. You can learn the words, too, in French!

Tomorrow I'm going to choose a new book. Do you have a book recommendation?

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STINK - The Incredible Shrinking Kid

Hi Book Buddies,
Poor Stink. I thought I had it bad getting teased by Moosey-Moose all the time. But Stink has it worse than I do! I think his sister Judy is a brat. I'm on page 40 and the part when Stink is taking care of Newton. I don't have a very good feeling about what might happen to Newt. I think Judy should not have put Newt in with the toad. What do you think?

Check back tomorrow and I'll tell you what happens.
