Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 18

Hi Book Buddies,

It's been a while since we have blogged. I miss hearing from all of you. I know it's a busy time of year.

Well, by now you should have finished reading The Tiger Rising. I hope you write to me to tell me what you liked the most about the story and what you didn't like. I will wait to tell you mine, just in case you have not finished the book.

I want to choose a new book for the new year. So, start thinking of what you would like to read next. Then we can take a vote. I am so excited!

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear Plays In the Snow

Hi Friends,

Did you get out in the snow? I'm glad you like our snowman. I was going to use a carrot but the snowman was too small for the carrots Kathleen had. So, we used a small binder clip for the nose, some red beads for his mouth, and teeny tiny pieces of chocolate for his eyes. Then, we used a small piece of one of Kathleen's fleecey scarfs for his neck to keep him warm. Oh, and we used twigs for his arms. I wanted a hat for him just like mine, but we didn't have one.

Hot cocoa is very yummy! I like mine with lots of whippy cream on top. Some people like tiny marshmallows. I think those are yucky.

I think I am a good cook. Kathleen liked the pie Moosey-Moose and I baked. Oh, and I made brownies with my friends in San Diego. Remember Scaredy Pup and Bear? That reminds me, I need to call them. But this time I will talk for a short time and not 3 hours! I don't want another big phone bill and then I have to wash lots of dishes again. That was not fun.

Natalie, you are very nice to help those people who got stuck in the snow. Have fun playing in the snow but be safe, too.

Happy Holidays,

Sleepy Bear

ps - Be sure to check back tomorrow for your last reading assignment for my book club. We will choose a new book soon.

Sleepy Bear Plays In the Snow

Hi Friends,

I looooove the snow! This morning Moosey-Moose and I built a snowman! That was hard work. The snow is very cold in my paws. I had to take lots of time-outs to warm up. Moosey-Moose kept teasing me. What do you think of the snowman? I think we did a great job - it looks great!

Then we made snow angels. Have you ever done that? Be sure to wear a warm jacket when you make one because the snow is really cold and wet.

Well, I'm going to make some hot cocoa to help me warm up. Then I want to go play in the snow again. I hope you have fun in the snow today, too. Remember to wear a warm jacket, a hat, ear muffs, mittens, and boots.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 17

Hi Book Club Buddies,

I hope you are staying warm. I think I need to get a warm sweater like Moosey-Moose is wearing.

Yesterday I felt like reading a holiday book. So I chose to read one of Kathleen's favorite books. She said she read it when she was a little girl. It is called, Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree by Robert Barry. It's about a tree that is too tall so Mr. Willowby chops off the top. Then the top goes on a journey to different houses. But each time, the tree is too tall. I won't tell you the ending except that it's a happy ending.

Well, stay warm today.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 16

Hi Book Buddies,

I hope you have kept up with the reading. I have a few questions for you.

1. Why is Rob very sad in Chapter 15?

2. Sistine is named after something. Do you remember what the story said? Here's a hint, the answer is on page 57.

In chapter 17 I felt sad for Rob when he was remembering about how his dad told him not to cry over the bird. What about you? Did you feel the same way?

Well, we are getting closer to the end of our book. Let's read chapters 18, 19 and 20 this weekend.

Bye for now.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 15

Hi Book Club Buddies,

Someone was wondering why Sistine's dress was torn and muddied. If you re-read chapter 6 you will find the answer. If you can't find it, then let me know and I will help you some more.

So, we are almost finished with our first book club book! Let's read chapters 15, 16, and 17 this week.

Do you have predictions about what will happen? Moosey-Moose told me that he thinks the tiger will escape from the cage. I'm not sure I agree. I think the zoo might come and get the tiger and give him a good home. I'm still thinking about it.

Natalie, I will give Mrs. Hunter your message about your homework. I'm sure if you do your best work, she will understand if it is late.

Have a good day at school tomorrow.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 14

Hi Boys and Girls!

Wow! We're almost finished with our book. I'm really liking it. I thought that was pretty funny, too, when Sistine tried to get Rob's rash. That was pretty silly!

No, I have not read the whole book, yet. But, maybe we can finish it this week. What do you think? What book should we read next? I'm really happy I have this book club and I'm really glad I have friends to read books with. I don't know how many people are in the book club. Some people are reading the book but they don't write to me. I wish everyone wrote to me. But, sometimes people get really busy.

Anyway, let's read chapters 15 and 16 tomorrow.

Oh, someone said my birthday is this month. I think they mean Kathleen's birthday. Her birthday is two days after Christmas! She's lucky!

Did you see Moosey-Moose's pictures of him and the reindeer? They look really cool! He got a new sweater, too!

Well, I'm going to go to sleep now. I want to make sure I get lots of sleep so I don't get sick. Lots of people are catching winter colds. OK, I'll write to you tomorrow.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Day 13

Hi Book Buddies!

How are you? I'm doing OK. I have the sniffles a little bit.

I have a question for you. Do you remember why the hotel where Rob lives is called the Kentucky Star? The answer is in chapter 11.

Let's read Chapters 13 and 14. Tell me what you like the most about this story so far. My favorite part is about Rob and Sistine. I'm really curious about why Rob has the rash on his legs. I'm also curious about Sistine. We don't know too much about her, yet. I like how the author keeps us in suspense and makes us want to keep reading.

Be sure to write back.

Sleepy Bear
