Sleepy Bear Meets Stephanie Barden

Hi Book Buddies,

Look at me!

Stephanie Barden Reads to Sleepy Bear - June 2011

I had a super good time at Mockingbird Books on Saturday.
I got to meet a real live author, in person. Her name is Ms. Barden, the author of Cinderella Smith.
She even read to me. She’s really nice.

Ms. Barden told us about how she got the idea for her story. She wanted it to be a picture book. But, her agent and editor wanted it to be a chapter book. So, she had to write a LOT more words.

Moosey-Moose and Kathleen are writing a book. I watch them so I know that writing chapters takes a long time. Moosey-Moose says it’s hard work, too, and that’s why I have to do his chores. Anyway, I just like reading books.

After Ms. Barden read to me she signed her name on the title page! Look real close at the message.

I had a super duper good time meeting Ms. Barden. Oh, and the cupcakes were yummy! I hope you read Cinderella Smith, too.

Sleepy Bear and Cinderella Smith

Hi Book Buddies,

I really like Cinderella Smith. She’s spunky! Do you remember who else is spunky? My book buddies in Mrs. A’s class and I read Junie B. Jones and I thought she was spunky, too! Junie B. Jones, not Mrs. A.

Chapter 14

Anyway, I’m reading chapter 14 now. It’s the part when Erin, Cinderella’s friend, meets her stepsisters for the first time.

I can’t wait to find out if they are evil stepsisters just like in the real Cinderella fairy tale story.

Don’t forget, if you live in Seattle, Stephanie Barden, the author of Cinderella Smith, is going to be at Mockingbird Books on Saturday! Maybe I’ll see you there, too.

Sleepy Bear Reads a New Book!

Hi Book Buddies,

Today I am starting a new book!

Sleepy Bear Introduces the Book

It is called, CINDERELLA SMITH by Stephanie Barden. It’s about a girl who loses her shoes all the time.

Well, it is about a lot more than just shoes that get lost, but that is the main part. I’ll tell you more after I have read a few chapters.

This book was recommended to me by one of my friends at Mockingbird Books in Green Lake, Washington. I live really close to Green Lake. I’m super lucky because guess what? On Saturday June 25th, Stephanie Barden is going to be at Mockingbird Books!

I hope I get to meet Ms. Barden in person. I’m super shy about meeting new people. I bet Moosey-Moose would like to meet her because he’s writing a book, too with Kathleen!

Check back later and I’ll tell you more about CINDERELLA SMITH.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Book Buddies,

My book buddies from Mrs. A.’s asked me for recommendations for books to read this summer. I had to give this a lot of thought because there are so many books to read, and never enough time. Here are some of my favorites.

I like reading STINK by Megan McDonald. She’s the lady who writes the JUDY MOODY books, too.

I also like WELCOME TO THE BED AND BISCUIT by Joan Carris. I also read WILD TIMES AT THE BED AND BISCUIT. My reading and writing teacher, Kathleen, told me there is another book in the series called MAGIC AT THE BED AND BISCUIT. I want to put that one at the top of my summer reading list.

Oh, one more book I think you will like is called CINDERELLA SMITH by Diane Goode. I’m going to write about that one in a few days so check back!

I have a list of more books I have read and really liked. The list is on the right hand side of my blog.

I have to go feed Tsavo now. Moosey-Moose is supposed to feed Tsavo but he asked me to help with his chores. Moosey-Moose said he is super busy making changes to his book. Hmmm, I think he doesn’t want to do his chores!
