Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies!

I really like this story! This is me reading and eating a sticky bun pastry. YUM! YUM!

I want to share some of my sticky-notes. Hey, that's a coincidence - sticky bun and sticky notes! Anyway, on page 2 I learned a new word - shinny. It means to climb quickly by clinging with the arms and legs. I'm going to try to use that word in a sentence today.

My second sticky note is on page 3. When the doctor took Stuart's temperature it was 98.6. Did you know that is the same temperature for people, too? I thought that was interesting. I think Stuart is more like a human than people think he is.

On page 6 I wrote a sticky-note to remind me to ask Kathleen what violet water is. I will ask her today. And finally, on page 10 I wrote down another word, louse. It means an insect.

Well, I hope you are enjoying STUART LITTLE as much as I am. I hope you write to me soon about your favorite parts of the story or maybe some more new words.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - STUART LITTLE

Hi Book Buddies,
I chose my new book for my book club! I'm very excited to read STUART LITTLE by E. B. White. Did you know that E. B. White also wrote CHARLOTTE'S WEB?

Well, I'll give you a couple of days to get a copy of STUART LITTLE before I start asking all kinds of questions and sharing what I'm thinking while I'm reading.

Oh, if you need a bookmark, be sure to let me know and I will mail one to you.

Happy Reading,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies!

I finished reading NATE THE GREAT. It was a really fun book. I'm glad Nate the Great solved his mystery. But I don't think he liked the present he got from Rosamond. I think Nate the Great likes pancakes. What do you think?

Well, I need to choose a new book. I'm planning to go to the bookstore today. I think I will find something there. If you have suggestions, let me know. Some people have already suggested books, so I will keep those in mind when I'm shopping.

Oh, and Jason, I love my new hat! Thank you.

Sleepy Bear Answers His Mail

Hi Book Buddies,

Time for me to get caught up on my mail. I love getting comments from all my readers! You are all really great friends.

First, I don't know what Roblox.com is. I don't usually play computer games. I'm too busy reading books for my book clubs.

Speaking of book clubs, Grace suggested PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I think Kathleen saw the movie. It sounds like a really good book. But, I like to choose books that no one has read yet so it's new for everyone. One way to find out about new books is to ask a librarian, your teacher, or to browse around in bookstores. That one is my favorite! Sometimes I go to the really big bookstores and find a cozy spot on a shelf with new friends, books, and stay there for hours choosing the best book to take home.

I'm very excited about all the kids who are learning how to crochet. That's super cool. Uh oh! Now I'm sounding like Moosey-Moose. He always says super cool.

Well, bye for now, write again soon.

Sleepy Bear Receives a Gift!

Hi Friends,

Look at what I got! One of Mrs. Hunter's students named Jason learned how to crochet in class and he made a hat for me. It has a little tassel on it for decoration. Oh, and he wrote a really nice note and drew a picture of me, too. I'm going to hang the picture up on my wall. Thank you, Jason!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies,

Did you find Sweden? I did. Here's a link to a map in case you need some help. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/maps/europe/sweden/

I have read pages 1 - 17. So far I've learned where Scandinavia is on a map and where Sweden is, too. It looks really far away. Someday maybe I will visit there. But back to Nate. I'm very curious about what Rosamond lost. It sounds very peculiar. Do you know what peculiar means? That's a word I learned last year. If you don't know what it mean, try looking it up in a dictionary. If you get stuck, write to me and I will help you out.

I also think it's funny that Rosamond took her four cats with her! I live with three cats. I can't imagine what it would be like to travel with four.

Well, Nate found out what Rosamond lost but he still doesn't know where it is. I'll tell you more later in case you haven't read to page 17. I don't want to spoil it for you.

I hope you are enjoying our book club.

Your Book Buddy,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - NATE THE GREAT

Hi Book Buddies!

Guess what? I finally chose a new book to read!

I have always wanted to read NATE THE GREAT and Kathleen had a few on her desk, so I'm borrowing one. This one is called NATE THE GREAT SAVES THE KING OF SWEDEN, by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat.
I don't know where Sweden is but I plan to find it on a map. Let's see who can find it first. OK. Ready. Set. Go!
Write to me when you find it.
