Sleepy Bear's Book Club - FROM THE MIXE-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER

Hi, Book Buddies,

I'm very excited to start another book for my book club. The book I chose is another Newbery Medal winner. It is called, FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER, by e.l. konigsburg. Oh, first I should mention that the author writes her name in lower case letters on her books. I don't know why. That would be a good question to ask her one day.

This story is about a girl named Claudia who takes her brother, Jaime, and runs away to live in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. That sounds pretty exciting! But there's more. There's something about Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and Claudia needs to find out who she is before she can go home. This book sounds like a good mystery story, too.

Let's read the first chapter this week. Write to me to let me know what you are thinking about while you are reading. And don't forget to write down your refrigerator words on sticky notes.

Sleepy Bear Needs a New Book

Hi Book Buddies,

Well, did you enjoy reading KNEEKNOCK RISE? I really liked it because it was part mystery, part adventure, and part sad. I'm still not sure what is the Megrimum. Do you know? I wonder if Egan will visit his uncle again. How would you change the ending of the story?

It's time to choose a new book. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - KNEEKNOCK RISE

Hi Book Buddies,

I'm almost finished reading KNEEKNOCK RISE. I'm enjoying this book because it's part mystery and part adventure and it keeps me wondering what is the Megrimum. I'm glad Uncle Ott is OK. Do you believe what he told Egan about why he climbed KNEEKNOCK RISE and why he wants to stay up there?

I also like this book because I learned something new about geysers and hot springs. I did some research. Here is the link with some great information: http://library.thinkquest.org/17457/volcanoes/features.geysers.php

I'm on page 103. I think I can finish the book today. Write to me to tell me what you learned about geysers and hot springs.

Sleepy Bear Reads With The Cat In the Hat

Hi Book Buddies,

What a fun day of reading!

I have had an especially fun day because I got to read with The Cat In the Hat! We decided to take a break so I made him some hot cocoa with whippy cream. My favorite. He liked it, too.

What did you do to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday? I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Hi Bood Buddies,

Looky at who I get to spend the day with.

I'm very excited! The Cat in the Hat is going to read with me today! All day! Right now we are reading KNEEKNOCK RISE by Natalie Babbitt. I am on page 54. Egan is just about to go to the Instep Fair. I wonder what he is going to find out about the Megrimum. I think the Megrimum is in every one's imagination.

I hope you are doing something special to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. Let me know how you are celebrating.
