Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #5 - Day 2

Hi Book Buddies,

I hope you are liking The Spiderwick Chronicles. I read chapters 1 and 2 last night before I went to bed. Maybe that was not a good idea. I was a little scared. I thought I heard noises in the walls just like Jared did in the story. But I don't have an older sister to scare them away. So, I stayed under the covers where it was safe. Finally I fell asleep.

I'm going to start making some more refrigerator magnet words. Moosey-Moose told me about those. My first word is going to be chandelier on page 5. I have more that I will share with you later this afternoon after I buy some more sticky notes.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #5 - Day 1

Hi Book Buddies!

I finally decided on a book for our book club! It was really really hard for me to choose. I even went to the book store yesterday for hours! I have a lot of bookshelves in my house but WOW! the bookstore has about a million more. I snuggled up in a corner of one shelf and started reading. Kathleen had to ask the bookstore people to help her find me.

OK, so back to our new book. It's called The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Maybe some of you have already read this book. If you have, don't give away what happens but maybe you can read along with me and help me with the parts I might not understand.

Let's start with chapters 1-3 this week. Oh, and don't forget to read the very beginning part, too.

Well, have a good day!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #5

Hi Book Buddies,

Thank you for all your suggestions for my next book club book. Now I know what Kathleen means when she says there are so many books to read and so little time. I feel like that right now.

I'm thinking of reading The Spiderwick Chronicles. What do you think about that book? Or The Hundred Dresses. I can't decide!

Oh, before I forget, Alondra, the answer to your math question is 110. Do you like math? I do, too, but I love reading!

Well, I'm going to go make myself a cup of hot cocoa with lots and lots of whippy cream! It feels like winter all over again outside.

Bye for now,
Your Book Buddy,

Sleepy Bear

ps - have you read Kathleen's chapters for her book?

Sleepy Bear Needs a New Book!

Hi Book Buddies,

I'm really glad you liked A Visitor for Bear. I think it was fun to read a picture book for my book club.

Some of you have given me suggestions for books for my next book club book. One was Goosebumps. Another suggestion was the Wayside School Kids. I have never read those. What do you think? Are there other books you can suggest, too?

I will give this some more thought. Oh! Have you read Kathleen's first two chapters to her book? If you haven't, then you should. I know she wants to know what you think.

Good luck to everyone who is taking the state tests!

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #4 - Day 3

Hi Book Buddies,

I'm really glad you are enjoying the book, A Visitor for Bear. My favorite part is when the mouse keeps hiding in different places even when Bear tries to keep him out. But Bear does get very annoyed. I wouldn't do that. The mouse just wants to be Bear's friend. I'm glad Bear finally let Mouse in. I like drinking tea in front of the fireplace, too. That part reminded me of Kathleen and me when we read together on cold winter days.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #4 - Day 2

Hi Book Buddies!

Well, how do you like the book? What is your favorite part? I won't give away the ending yet just in case you haven't finished reading the story.

Have you ever met an author of a book before? This was my first time. I was a little nervous at first. But Ms. Becker was really nice.

I'll write more tomorrow.

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #4 - Day 1

Hi Book Buddies!

I am so excited to start a new book. This time I chose a picture book. This book is special to me because it's about a bear, just like me. Well, he's not exactly like me, but he's a bear.

The book is called, A Visitor for Bear, by Bonny Becker and illustrated by Kady MacDonald Denton.

This book is special to me for another reason, too. I got to meet the author and she autographed my book for me. She wrote a very nice note to me. If you look real close you can read it but I'll tell you anyway. It says, "For Sleepy Bear. Here's to good friends & good books!"
This reminds me. Kathleen also writes books. You can read the first two chapters of her book on her website. The book is called Shoes, Boys 'n BFFs. Here's the link to her website: www.KathleenHunterWrites.com I read the chapters and I think they are really funny! Be sure to let her know how much you liked them, too.

Sleepy Bear Visits His Friends in Los Angeles

Hi Friends,

This is a picture of me with my friends Scaredy Pup and Big Bear. They traveled from San Diego to Santa Monica beach to see Moosey-Moose and me. Remember when I called them to ask them for their recipe for brownies? Well, this time I got to see them in person! We had a lot of fun in the sunshine.

I hope they get to come visit me again but next time in Seattle!

I'm going to start my book club next.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear
