Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #2 - Day 5

Hi Book Buddies,

Well, we should be on page 160 by now. I know some of you were not able to get a book. Maybe if you finish early, you can loan your book to a friend to read.

On page 93 and 94 Greg said he didn't do very good on his state capitals test. Some of the students in Mrs. Hunter's class are learning the names of the states and capitals and other important facts about the United States. I bet you would do great on a quiz!

I felt bad for Greg when he had to be in the school play, even though The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. Have you seen it? I recommend it if you haven't.

I'm not sure if we will read Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules next or not. Perhaps we should select that book later so more kids can have time to get a copy. What do you think?

Have a good day at school.

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #2 - Day 4

Hi Book Buddies,

Are you liking Diary of a Wimpy Kid? I think it is very funny. Sometimes I feel like Greg because sometimes I get picked on, too. I also really like the pictures. I'm going to try to draw like that. Maybe I'll show you my pictures one day.

Some of you have already finished the book! I haven't finished yet, but I think we can finish it this week. Tell me what is your favorite part. Oh, I have a new word for you. Do you know what "regimen" means? It's on page 88.

I'm going to go read some more now then I need to get some sleep.

Bye for now,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #2 - Day 3

Hi Book Buddies,

Well? How did you like the first 20 pages of Diary of a Wimpy Kid? I think it's funny. Some of the jokes I don't understand because I think I'm too young. But I really like the pictures. They're super funny! I wonder if I can draw like that? I've never tried. I sometimes feel like the character Greg because Moosey-Moose sometimes plays tricks on me, too.

This book goes by fast. Do you think we can read more than 20 pages a day? I think so. Can we try to read 30 pages each day?

Well, let me know how you like the book so far.

Bye for now,

Your Book Buddy,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #2 - Day 2

Hi Book Buddies!

Are you as excited as I am about starting our new book?

In case you don't know, we are going to read Diary of a Wimpy Kid, by Jeff Kinney. This book is very popular. Some of you have already read the book but I hope you read it again with me.

Well, let's get started. Let's read pages 1 - 20 today. Tomorrow I will ask you some questions and you can ask me questions, too. Let me know if 20 pages in one day are too many or if you want to read more.

Happy reading!

Your book buddy,

Sleepy Bear

Sleepy Bear's Book Club - Book #2 - Day 1

Good morning Book Buddies,

A few of you have written to tell me your book suggestions. A lot of you want to read, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I like how Celina told me that it has correct spelling in the story. Some books for kids try to make it look like it was written by a kid and the author misspells words. I don't think that's a very good idea. Why learn how to spell the words wrong?

Well, I have decided to choose Diary of a Wimpy Kid for our next book club book. We will read the first one in the series first - the one with a red cover on it. If we all like it, then we can read the second one, too.

Oh, thanks to everyone who wrote to me to remind Kathleen to take a thimble to school today. I saw her get one out of her sewing basket and put it in her purse. I think that is great that you are reading Alice In Wonderland. Alice goes on a great adventure!

Well, hope you get your books soon. I will write again with our first assignment for our book club.

Sleepy Bear Gets Caught Up On Correspondence

Hi Boys and Girls!

Wow, I sure missed hearing from you over the holidays. I'm glad you are writing to me again. I will try to answer everyone's questions.

Kathleen had fun on her birthday. She spent the day reading and relaxing. Then her husband took her and some friends to dinner and a movie. I stayed home. I gave her a book for her birthday. She really liked it. It's a really big book called Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales. It has a dark green leather cover on it.

I had a fantastic holiday season with family and friends. Kathleen baked a lot of cookies. I helped, too. I'm glad it snowed so I could play outside and get some exercise, too. Now it's just raining a lot so I have to stay inside.

I like everyone's suggestions for a new book for my book club. Thanks to everyone who has written. But, I think I will choose that you have not read yet. So, if there is a book you have been wanting to read, let me know and maybe that will be the new book. I hope we can start in the next week. I can't wait!!!

Zeena, it's almost your birthday. Happy Birthday!

OK, I'm going to go read and then I'm going to go to bed early. All this rain makes me sleepy. I hope you are having a good week at school.

Your friend,

Sleepy Bear
